Detail Profile
School of Health Sciences, Assam The Department of Physiotherapy, School of Health Sciences, Assam, is dedicated to developing skilled, compassionate, and competent physiotherapy professionals equipped to support patients across different stages of recovery and rehabilitation. The department combines academic learning, practical training, clinical exposure, and evidence-based practice to provide students with a strong foundation in physiotherapy and healthcare. The programme introduces students to the fundamentals of human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology, exercise therapy, electrotherapy, therapeutic rehabilitation, and clinical assessment. Students progressively develop the ability to assess movement and functional limitations and understand appropriate physiotherapy approaches for different conditions. Clinical education forms an important part of the department's approach. Students gain practical exposure to areas such as orthopaedics, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, sports injuries, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, paediatric physiotherapy, geriatric care, and community-based rehabilitation. This helps students connect classroom knowledge with real-world patient care.
The department also encourages professional ethics, communication skills, teamwork, patient-centred care, and lifelong learning. Through practical sessions, demonstrations, clinical case discussions, seminars, and supervised training, students are encouraged to develop confidence and professional responsibility.
The Department of Physiotherapy aims to prepare graduates for diverse career opportunities in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, clinics, sports and fitness facilities, community healthcare, academic institutions, research, and private practice. Its broader objective is to contribute to improved quality of life by promoting mobility, functional independence, injury prevention, and rehabilitation through scientifically informed physiotherapy practice.
